Some poem thing I found online
twisted concluded contorted construed
the time that you spent
a sad dream to fly
the things that you said
a reason to die
A diamond
A rough thing
A hand full of nothing
A crease in the face
that wont be replaced
no broken bones
but in your mouth a bad taste
A sketchbook
A dirty look
And there's something I took
Twisted construed contorted concluded
no longer a reason for me to try
the time that you spent
a sad dream to fly
the things that you said
a reason to die
A diamond
A rough thing
A hand full of nothing
A crease in the face
that wont be replaced
no broken bones
but in your mouth a bad taste
A sketchbook
A dirty look
And there's something I took
Twisted construed contorted concluded
no longer a reason for me to try

Rodolphe Simeon
Someone I found on some other website. Thought his stuff was interesting. He has some strange photos of himself with make up on and mickey mouse has on and stuff, and its always kinda graphic looking.
His black and white stuff is a little different. Same sort of emphasis on texture, but different content.
Mike Parr
I dont really know anything about this guy, I just saw one picture and tried to find stuff on him. I didn't really find that much and I dont really know what he's all about except for maybe trying to hurt himself or make it seem like he is hurting himself. But then again I didn't really try to find out that much on him.
This is him holding his head I guess with his one good arm. He was born with a deformed arm and uses that in his art as inspiration or something. I was thinking about it and thought it would be funny if he was just a guy with a messed up arm and used it to play jokes on people, and then he called it art.
I guess he is also about pain or something. I don't know. He does performances and records em and stuff, I couldn't find any clips online, but again I didin't look very hard. He did one where he stitched his face together or something, I don't think this is it but I suppose this is a good example of...stuff, er something. I dont know, I guess its a good example of him doing stuff to his face. Oh wait, this is the thing where he stitched his face together. Mk, neat. Found it i guess.
Here he looks like a soldier who lost his arm in battle during a war or something. I totally dont't know what this is about, I didn't read anything about it and I don't know enough about the guys work to make any assumptions other than something he is trying to say about war or the army. Oh yeah, he's from Australia.
So yeah, I thought it would be funny if he was just some guy who played jokes on people cause he had a messed up arm and stuff, and turns out thats one of his pieces er something. He has a prosthetic arm and filled it with meat and fake blood and stuff and then started to hack away at it with an ax while he was talking to a group of unsuspecting viewers. What a guy.

Jeff Buckley and Charles Darwin
I saw some graffiti as we were leaving the Chelsea area and thought that, even though I saw some interesting stuff in the galleries, probably the most interesting stuff was what I saw on the street, which was stuff like graffiti and just random things that looked interesting.
We decided to go the the Whitney after Chelsea and see what they had there. There was a great exhibition on Alexander Calder. I was a mild fan of his before, but I guess sometimes you just don't really appreciate another persons work until you see it first hand. I didn't take any pictures cause I wasn't sure if I was allowed and I was basically just too interested to get my camera out. I'm really glad that I got to see his stuff in person.
When I was looking at some of Calder's stuff, I saw a guy who I thought kinda looked like Jeff Buckley. Then I looked again and he really looked like him. I wanted to show one of my friends but no one was around, so I just left it alone. Then I got to the first floor and saw a man who looked like Charles Darwin, and I think it was actually him. I showed my friends and they agreed that he not only looked really cool, but also looked like Darwin, who also looked cool when he was alive. I was trying to get a picture of them, but we were around a gallery space, so I wasn't sure if I was allowed to take pictures. Then I saw Darwin guy go over the the elevators and who was standing there, waiting for an elevator but Jeff Buckley guy. They were both just about the same exact height, standing right next to eachother. It was crazy. I saw them go into the elevator and knew that I would never see them again, because they were both going back to their rightful time periods, both of them being dead now. Either that or they just went to the Calder exhibit.
So anyway, we were just about to leave when some of my friends wanted to get their pictures taken, and even though I knew I was never going to see Jeff Buckley guy again, I saw him. So I told my friends that I would take a picture of them, even though I was just trying to get a picture of Jeff Buckley. Well I got one but not a very good one. I wish I could have gotten the Darwin guy cuase he looked even more like Darwin than this guy looked like Buckley.
You know, for being such a busy city with loads of people, I sure did see a lot of the same people through out the day, and in different parts of the city. I guess they were just tourists like me with the same idea in mind.
Dark Dootles
So finally, at one of the last galleries were went to, I decided to look at the name of the person whose art I was admiring. This guy was Zak Smith and he had a lot of drawings in the gallery. He had a wall with about 50 or more small pieces of paper that were maybe around 7x8 in size. They looked like there were part of a comic strip. I don't know if they were though. The rest of his stuff was on what was probably 8 1/2 by 11 paper and then he had a few larger things. I thought it was interesting that it seemed like most of his stuff were just really intense doodles, with a little more work than usual. Ok, there was definitely a lot more work than someone would normally put into a doodle. I guess that's what I liked about them for the most part, that they were like doodles, with strange content and rather ambiguous and a lot of detail, usually filling the whole page.
Dream
So I felt like I had to take a picture of this because I often run into things and places that I feel like I have been to before or have seen. They are always places I have never been but I know where things are and where the next turn in the road will be. One time I was in someones attic and It reminded me of a dream. It reminded me so much of my dream that I thought I would look around to see if there was a guitar somewhere in the attic laying on a stack of boxes behind a taller stack of boxes. And low and behold I found the same guitar from my dream, with out strings, as it was in my dream, laying on a stack of boxes behind a taller stack of boxes, the same color and same size as the one in my dream. Anyway, I don't get freaked out or anything by it when it happens, but I thought it would be cool to take a picture of it when it happens. So I took a picture of this sculpture cause I had a dream about it before, or something like it.
The Sculpture was probably about 9 and a half feet tall at its highest point.
This was the middle of the sculpture, a place to sit when you walked into the spiral.
The top of the sculpture was dug out with water flowing down it to the center, and the sound of the water was pretty nice when you sat down. There's Ben trying to look cool.
So I'm dumb and still didn't think to find out the name of the artist. Should have found out and seen if he or she sculpted any more of my dreams.

Tribes, planets and paintings
I don't remember this guys name. He had these really large paintings of planets and then usually a sculpture in front of it. His paintings were probably about 12 feet or so long and maybe 8 feet high. The canvas or wood or whatever the material was, I'm guessing wood, was completely black, and the only thing on the the wood was one planet, which would take up the middle of the painting with the edges of the planet touching the top and bottom of the painting. The planets were usually brown and silveryish, which I guess isn't a word. They were all textured but some had these big spots where the artist must have put cloth or something attached and painted over it. I don't think my explanation is very good and I probably should have just taken a picture of it, but anyway, they were neat looking. His sculptures were made from what looked like old farm equipment and garden tools. Some times they looked like African masks, but most of the time he set them up to look like bugs on display. They were pretty neato, which I guess is a word.
The gallery these paintings were in was a little different from all of the other galleries, which were all extremely similar. This one seemed like it could have been a house and I've actually been in a few houses that were set up the way this one was. It had a split level and these were in the basement.
This painting of the girl in bed was the first painting I saw in the basement and it reminded me of my friend Becky. One of my friends took pictures of Becky for the art show in high school and they were of her in bed just kinda lounging around. I liked the light and the look of the blankets, there is a really great atmosphere and mood that comes out of this painting, it could fit a lot of different senerios and stories, which I think works well, because it can keep someones attention.
Once again, I don't know the name of the guy who did all of these, I wish I had made a point to remember the names.
Toys and Photos
We were walking on the street and walked by this really small, toy-looking car, and when we went into one of the galleries I could see it from one of the floors, so I took a sweet text pic. When I stood next to the car, it didn't seem to be much longer than my arm span.
Another gallery with photos, I think just about all of them were of famous people. So I took a Picture of Arnold cause He's cool and cause my friend Alex and I used to quote Terminator 2 all the time in high school. Our senior year he bought Pumping Iron and we watched it at his house. He got really into body building and got in pretty good shape. Now he is bigger than I am and I haven't really talked to him in a while.
I think this is a portrait of Chief John Big Tree, one of the Naives who was the inspiration for the Buffalo Nickel. This was probably my favie text pic in the gallery. It was directly across from the woman at the front desk and again I wasnt sure if I was allowed to take a picture so I had to be sneeky bout it, thus the photo is slightly off canter. Forgive me. There was also a picture of Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols that I thought was very good. I probably should have gotten a picture of that, but I didn't, so don't worry about it.
nyc
One of the first galleries we walked into was this one, which had stuff by a woman who made these intricate sculptures. They looked like chandeliers with black and red flowers, little sculptures of birds, and some times actual birds in them. They also had feathers and were almost entirely covered in dripped black wax. At least that's what they looked like. She also had the same style of sculptures but they were just these massive forms laying on the floor. Some of them had what looked like actual birds in or apart of the sculpture, looking as if they were being swallowed by it, kind of like in Akira when Tetsuo's arm goes crazy and he starts bubbling over with his crazy Akira power and eats everyone with his fat. Anyway, I don't remember the artists name, but I will find out and post it on here. I liked it.This was the first sculpture in the gallery, it was right in front when you walked in and I wanted to get a picture of it but wasnt sure if I was allowed to, so I had Ben stand so he was blocking the woman at the front desk. I still didn't take a very good picture, but the sculpture had peacock feathers in it and I really wanted to get a picture cause I liked it and I knew that my friend would like it too.
Ah, city life.
I don't usually do much when I'm at school, I don't go to the movies or even go to the store. I almost never leave the actual campus, except for maybe going for a short walk at night, that's about as far out as I usually go. So it was pretty nice to leave this past weekend. My friend told me about M83 playing in Philadelphia along with a band called School of Seven Bells. I really enjoy listening to both bands but have never seen them. So he bought some tickets for my friends and me and bought some bus tickets so we could go to New York City. I still have to pay him back for that actually. Anyway, I thought this would be a good opportunity to bring my camera and take pictures of junk.
We walked through Time Square, it was neat, then we went to Chelsea to walk through all the galleries. I saw some stuff that I liked but I didn't really make a point to remember every ones name. So I only know one persons name.

Thats where I got the Cameron Photos from. Neat website.
Julia Margaret Cameron
Stumbled on these when I was looking at Rejlander, they are kind of similar Rejlander in that they look like paintings from renaissance, with the religious in nature thing and the composition and what not. Interesting too that they seem to be very traditional and almost religious and there is the image of Darwin which many people think of as being anti-religion. Anyway, amazing photos.
Charlie White
Looking at Anthony Goicolea reminded me of this picture I saw on a website. Its a photo by Charlie White. I looked some of his other stuff, but this was my favorite. His work is very strange and I think It is supposed to make the viewer somewhat uncomfortable. He has a series called "Understanding Joshua" where he has a character who is made up in these strange situations. I'm not sure what I think about it completely. I can draw my own conclusions as to what I think it means, but I could be wrong, but then again I guess thats always a possibility in art. Anyway, the Anthony Goicolea images reminded me of the pictures of "Champion" because of the use of the added head. It reminded me also of how Caravaggio used to paint himself into his works and he would use images of himself as a youth and as well as himself when he was older in the same painting.
