Dark Dootles

So finally, at one of the last galleries were went to, I decided to look at the name of the person whose art I was admiring. This guy was Zak Smith and he had a lot of drawings in the gallery. He had a wall with about 50 or more small pieces of paper that were maybe around 7x8 in size. They looked like there were part of a comic strip. I don't know if they were though. The rest of his stuff was on what was probably 8 1/2 by 11 paper and then he had a few larger things. I thought it was interesting that it seemed like most of his stuff were just really intense doodles, with a little more work than usual. Ok, there was definitely a lot more work than someone would normally put into a doodle. I guess that's what I liked about them for the most part, that they were like doodles, with strange content and rather ambiguous and a lot of detail, usually filling the whole page.

This was one of his smaller pieces, looks like a comic. This one was larger, probably 3 feet long or so. I tried to see what each individual panel would look like by itself. Much better all together.

Before I left for the trip, I was using a pen a little bit to do some sketches and I really enjoyed using it. Seeing this guys stuff made me want to explore that possibility little more. I like the feeling I can get out of a grungy looking sketch.
